The UnderWatch Lifeguard

The UnderWatch Lifeguard is an underwater robot that rescues drowning people.  It uses a dome camera and AI to monitor swimmers for signs of drowning.  When it identifies someone drowning, it sets-off alarms and text notifications.  It then uses AI to quickly move directly below the person, where it uses its hydraulic telescoping lift to raise a grated platform, which raises the person above water so they can breathe.  It then moves the platform pool-side.  Rescues take less than 20 seconds.

Buddy Band – Protecting Kids, One Alert at a Time

Team: Mounica Gaddam – coach,  Mayukha Khambhammettu – Deep Creek Central Elementary, Avik Devarapalli – North Landing Elementary School.

Project description:
Viral infections such as influenza, rhinovirus, and enterovirus cause high illness and hospitalization rates among children each year. Current diagnostic methods like RT-PCR only detect infection after exposure has already occurred. The Buddy Band is a child-safe wearable that shifts healthcare from treatment to prevention by continuously monitoring airborne viruses using hydrogel sensors, an air intake system, and an integrated microchip. It provides real-time alerts in high-risk environments, especially schools, helping reduce transmission and improve pediatric public health outcomes.
