Cancer BAN-R: Blood and Nerve Regeneration

SHARE

Despite being the most prevalent cancer treatment, chemoradiation induces peripheral nerve damage and low blood cell count, leading to increased cancer relapses. The Cancer Blood and Nerve Regeneration (BAN-R) device is a novel graphene patch which incorporates laser sensors, microneedles, nanotechnology, and growth hormones to provide noninvasive transdermal delivery of specialized therapeutics, and restoring nerve and tissue function after chemoradiation. Blood cell count determined via a non-flowing laser scattering method regulates and triggers release of myeloid growth factor and granulocyte colony stimulating factors/erythropoietin stimulating agents encapsulated within a DNA nanostructure drug delivery vehicle for white and red blood cell restoration, respectively. Lipid nanoparticles containing CRISPR technology inducing Eed gene deletion are released from microneedles in the graphene patch to stimulate peripheral nerve repair. Cancer BAN-R will provides patients with an easily accessible and personalized complement to treat the lethal side-effects of chemoradiation.
